Some fun things we did with the kids besides the beach and eating included a trip to the lighthouse, to see the rescued sea turtles, and to see the "animals". Mason and daddy climbed to the top of the lighthouse while mommy and Micah stayed on the ground to watch. I wasn't feeling well, and the thought of having to carry a child down was enough to keep me on the ground. Craig said Mason got a little scared on the way up, but was fine once they got to the top.
The rescue sea turtles were very neat to see. I think all of them were injured. Both kids really enjoyed it.
On the way back to from the beach, there is this huge store that is quite the attaction. The huge gorilla is definitely a draw as Mason saw it from the car and asked if we could go see it. You have to pay to tour the grounds, while it was well done there are no live animals. I guess we are a little spoiled with trips to the zoo that cost about the same amount of money. It was also really hot, and the mosquitos were awful so we didn't stay out long.
In the store they both got to pick one item. I assumed Mason would pick shark teeth or seashells since we were at the beach. He walked around weighing his options, and he found exactly what he wanted... a toy gun. He and Craig looked for 10 minutes finding the perfect one for him, yes the one that broke in 15 minutes. He was so excited, and devestated when it broke. Needless to say, we made a trip to Walmart for a better one, and we returned it on our way back to the island.
Micah on the other hand knew exactly what she wanted. I was holding her and she wanted down, went straight to a bin of balls, and picked out a pink bouncy ball that glowed, and wouldn't let go of it. Can we say like father like son, like mother like daughter?
