At then end of January, on Wednesday night we left church about 8:15 and everyone was fine. I take Micah out of her car seat and this is what I see. Her eye was completely shut. Long story short we had to make a trip to the ER because it looked like there was a blister in her eye. Come to find out it was a thin layer over her eye that was swollen. We had no idea what it was, but after some recent allergy test it was probably mountain cedar in her eye as she is severely allergic.
Before I left for the ER with Micah Mason said he felt bad. He had a fever of 101.7... this was just the beginning.
Such a good patient...mommy and Micah in the ER.
On this same day, Craig found out his company was being bought out and he was going to work from home full time.
So the next day, Thursday, both Mason and Micah were home from school as Mason continued to have a low grade fever. Craig worked from home to help with the kids, and after that day said " We are going to have to move someone out of their bedroom, I can't work from home with an open office."
Friday... I had the privilege of photographing the Jennifer Rothschild "Fresh Grounded Faith " conference. That night as I was taking pictures, a friend from church came up and said, " We are selling our house. Do you want to buy it?" Well we obviously weren't looking to buy or sell, but I had been in that house and knew it was amazing. Craig and I decided to go look at it.
Friday night Reagan was literally up all night and fell asleep at 4 am. I have never been up all night with a child especially when I had to get up at 6 to go photograph the rest of the conference. Crazy!
We went to see the house on Sunday and loved it but didn't know you could buy a house without selling yours. Also, we said we would never do that!
Mason continued to have a low grade fever every afternoon, and with Tylenol it would go away. That was his only symptom and the doctor said it was a virus going around. One of his friends even had the same symptoms.
Life went on....
Reagan really?Sweet sisters...
This was Sunday...
Tuesday he was feeling better. His fever had been less than a 100.4 on Monday so he went to school. When I picked him up I could tell he didn't feel good. He said he was just blah. We went back to look at the house with the kids. We got home and Mason was in the bath and said he couldn't move his neck. Like at all. The 1st thing I thought was meningitis but I looked at the symptoms and he had none of them except the no movement in his neck. He begged us just to go to sleep.
I ran to the store, and while I was gone he started crying. Craig ran in there and he had what Craig thought might be a seizure. His eyes were rolled back and he was gargling and moaning and Craig couldn't wake him up. He called my but my ringer was off from seeing the house. He got him dressed and got him downstairs, and luckily I looked at my phone and called immediately. He said get home we have to get Mason to the ER. I called Kathryn and she came immediately to stay with the girls and Jorge came over until she got there.
We got to Childrens Methodist and there were about 150 people in the waiting room. I just started crying because I knew we couldn't wait that long. Something was wrong. He was also not talking right. We had no idea what it was. They got us in so quickly and very soon knew it was atypical strep that led to a bad infection in his throat and neck called a retropharyngeal abscess. We did a CT and it confirmed it. They said we would be in the hospital for 3-5 days.
So many amazing people stepped in and helped in so many ways. Everything from meals for two weeks, GiGi came immediately and stayed until Sunday, friends watched the girls, picked them up for school and brought them home, took me meals at the hospital, and brought Mason so many fun gifts. Even the girls with the help of Nancy made Mason some chocolate chip cookies.
A specialist came in and thought he had been there for weeks with all the stuff Mason had. Community is amazing!
I forget to mention while we were in the ER waiting for a room on Wednesday morning I got a call from the Realtor that they had another offer on the house and we had to decide by that day. Craig was in a meeting, I was in the ER with Mason, and the girls were home with a friend. Crazy! We hadn't even had a chance to really talk about it, but we knew it was a deal we couldn't pass up. We said yes with faith that we would sell our house quickly.
GiGi and Craig worked hard on the house while we were in the hospital. Uncle James came from Austin to help do some things on Thursday which was such a blessing. Mason finally got out on Saturday, and on Saturday afternoon we were signing the papers to put our house on the market and buy the other one. It is all such a blur.
Mason was home from everything until Thursday, and was 100%. Praise God for medicine and great doctors. We worked hard on getting the house ready and on Sunday night I started to feel bad. We had pictures of the house on Monday and I felt horrible. Craig and I cleaned for two hours and I was miserable. I ended up in Urgent Care and had strep! They treated it aggressively because of Mason. I felt much better pretty quickly.
Mason was glad to be back at basketball.
Oh and my dryer smelt like fire so I had to dry cloths at the laundry mat one Wednesday night when the kids were at awana and I was mentoring Ali on the phone while my clothes dried.
Then Micah had a bad asthma attack that lasted about a week.
Princess Micah came down stairs like this one morning...
Then Reagan got the stomach bug...
Then our house hit MLS on Thursday... and on Friday Reagan threw up all over herself in her carseat and we had two showings. So we went to Willies stomach bug and all.
On Saturday we went to the rodeo as we had two showings again. We got a call from our realtor that she had a buyer and was coming over for us to sign the contract. Really? Two day!!! God in the details!
